Start with the official download
Get the current beta from Tidebook downloads. Tidebook is a private statement-review workspace by Duskel and CodeWithUmar. The available builds are for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows x64; the Mac build does not support Intel Macs.
Check the platform notes and SHA-256 checksum on the download page. Keep a backup of your workspace before installing an update. Updates are manual for now.
Mac: Apple could not verify Tidebook
The Mac beta is not notarized by Apple. You may see ‘Apple could not verify Tidebook is free of malware.’ This warning means Apple cannot verify the app; it is not itself a report that malware was detected.
- Download the Mac beta from the official Tidebook page. Open the DMG and drag Tidebook into Applications.
- Open Tidebook from Applications. If the verification warning appears, click Done—not Move to Trash.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and find the Tidebook message.
- Only if you trust the download, click Open Anyway, authenticate when asked, then click Open. macOS saves an exception for this app.
These steps follow Apple’s official instructions. Only create an exception when you trust the source and are satisfied the download has not been tampered with.
Why this warning still appears
The current beta has not completed Apple notarization. Distributing an app outside the App Store does not remove Gatekeeper checks. Developer ID signing and Apple notarization are the publisher-side route to normal verified distribution; an App Store listing is not required.
Open Anyway is an app-specific exception, not a malware scan or a safety guarantee. We do not recommend disabling macOS security globally to install Tidebook.
Windows: read the beta limitations
Download the Windows x64 installer from the same official page. This build is experimental: it has been packaged successfully but has not yet been installation-tested on Windows, and it has no verified publisher signature. Windows may show an unknown-publisher or SmartScreen warning.
Do not disable antivirus or SmartScreen. If you cannot verify the file or your organization blocks it, stop and ask your administrator or contact Tidebook support.
After installation
Start with a copy of a statement and check the imported dates, currency, amounts, and balances against the original. Tidebook supports readable text-based PDFs and CSVs, not every bank layout or scanned PDF. Its tax-review workspace does not calculate tax liability or submit a return.
For download links and the latest platform limitations, return to Tidebook. If installation fails, send the app version, operating-system version, and exact error to support@duskel.com. Do not include bank statements or account details in an installation support request.
Questions, answered.
Does the verification warning mean Apple found malware?
Not this warning. It says Apple cannot verify the app. That is different from a warning that an app will damage your computer. Only proceed with a trusted, unmodified download.
What if Open Anyway is not available?
Try opening the app once and then check System Settings → Privacy & Security again. Managed devices may block exceptions; contact your administrator rather than disabling protection.
