A preview is not a handoff
The authoring app may remember a texture path, installed font, or linked photo that never travels with the file. The recipient sees only what was actually exported. A useful handoff check opens that output again and records what survived.
Our free Handoff Desk runs these checks in the browser. It does not upload files or require an account. Its findings are preflight guidance, not a guarantee that every destination accepts the result.
For OBJ models: resolve references before making a GLB
An OBJ commonly points to an MTL file, which can point to image textures. If one path is stale, a conversion can produce a technically valid but visually wrong GLB. Collect the OBJ, MTL, and images together; inspect each missing or ambiguous match; then choose the source unit and axis deliberately.
Handoff Desk previews the assembled model, exports a GLB, reimports that GLB, and gives you a report of resolved references and dimensions. It cannot reconstruct an image that was never supplied, and an unknown OBJ unit remains a human review item. Always inspect the final file in the intended viewer too.
For PDFs: check forms and annotations before rearranging pages
Page copying can discard or change interactive features. Before rotating or removing pages, check whether the document has form fields, signatures, or annotations. Keep the original and compare the edited output rather than assuming that readable pages mean an intact document.
The PDF workbench blocks page edits when it detects form or signature structures and compares annotation counts and types after editing. Its separate rescue path is image-only for pages that still render; it does not restore text, links, forms, or accessibility tags.
For photo exports: preserve originals and sidecars
A filename or file-modified time may not be the photo's capture date. Apple Live Photos and export sidecars can arrive as separate files. Review the date source, keep exact original bytes, and make the chosen folder paths visible before downloading an organized archive.
The photo workbench produces a ZIP with original files and a manifest. It flags uncertain dates and byte-identical duplicates, but it cannot infer a missing capture date or prove that similarly named still and video files are a matched Live Photo.
Questions, answered.
Do these files leave my computer?
Handoff Desk processes selected files in your browser. The current tools do not upload them to a conversion server. As with any browser app, review the privacy policy and your organization's file-handling rules before using sensitive material.
Can the tool repair any damaged PDF or missing texture?
No. It can relink model images you actually provide and can make image-only PDF copies from readable pages in a limited rescue flow. It does not recreate absent textures or guarantee full PDF repair.
